At The Living Room (TLR) coworking in Málaga, the sense of community and creativity is what makes this place a true home for digital nomads. Now, TLR has been recognized on the world stage, winning the title of Best Coworking Space for Nomads at The Nomad World Fest! The award celebrates TLR’s dedication to building a welcoming space for remote workers in Málaga, where work and connection go hand in hand.
A Surprise Nomination
For TLR’s founder, Ben Kolp, the nomination itself came as a surprise.
“I didn’t even know we’d been nominated until Juan, my good friend from Rooral, a rural coworking and coliving space in the picturesque village of Benarrabá, told me about it and congratulated me,” recalled Ben.
“At first, I thought, ‘What is he talking about?’ But it turns out we’d both been nominated, and both won!”
Juan’s win on the night with Rooral was for ‘Best Coliving Space for Nomads’.
“After having been myself in Benarrabá at Rooral already various times, I can say from my own experience that Juan and his team have more than deserved this award. The care on a very personal level they put into welcoming each and every person who comes to the village, and the enormous effort they put into involving the local population is out of this world,” praised Ben.
The awards were determined by a mix of public votes and a judge’s panel. The win for TLR recognized its efforts in creating an inclusive coworking space. Since opening in 2015, TLR has seen Málaga transform into a hotspot for digital nomads and remote workers.
“We’ve observed this change from mostly locals and expats living in Málaga looking for fixed desks to this wave of digital nomads who are just passing through for a few months – or even a few days – looking for a flexible, welcoming place to work,” said Ben.
“This win really drives us to keep up the great work the TLR team and all our members are doing to make digital nomads feel welcome at our space and in Málaga overall.”
A Night to Remember
The Nomad World Fest, hosted in Albufeira, Portugal, wasn’t just another conference; it was a celebration of remote work and the communities that bring it to life.
Gonçalo Hall, CEO of NomadX and one of the event organisers, explained the purpose behind the awards.
“The Nomad World is all about connecting like-minded nomads and building a strong community where people can share, learn, and grow together. We decided to include an awards section in the festival to celebrate the incredible work being done by spaces like TLR,” said Gonçalo.
“It was a fantastic night, filled with energy and inspiring stories, and TLR was a standout winner because of its dedication to fostering a vibrant community.”
With more than 4,000 people voting in the awards, the evening was packed with excitement, bringing together leaders in coworking, co-living, and remote work.
For Ben, the atmosphere that night was electric.
“It’s rare to see so many people who are equally passionate about building community for remote workers,” he shared.
“This award isn’t just about TLR. It’s about every person who comes through our doors, every connection made, and every laugh shared.”
A Big Thank You to the TLR Community
Ben was quick to emphasise that this win wouldn’t have been possible without the TLR team and the entire TLR community.
“This award isn’t mine. It’s TLR’s,” he said.
“A huge thank you goes out to every TLR team member. Each one regularly goes above and beyond to help make TLR such an incredible place to work.”
The Living Room has become a second home for countless nomads and remote workers in Málaga, thanks to this team’s efforts and dedication.
Of course, Ben also wanted to thank the friends and members who voted.
“Our community is what makes TLR unique. This award is a recognition of all of you who bring energy, laughter, and creativity to our space. All of you make TLR what it is – every day, at every event, at every lunch. This award is a reminder of just how strong our community is.”
