As the year comes to an end, we’re taking a moment to look back at one of the most valuable TGIF talks we hosted in 2025. In October, TLR member and video editing professional Josef Kramar gave a live demonstration on how to edit a video from start to finish. Whether you’re an experienced content creator or just curious about the process, this session offered practical insights you could use right away.
From Rough Footage to Final Cut
Rather than taking us through a presentation, Josef opened his editing software live and walked us through the process in real time. Starting with raw footage, he demonstrated how to cut, clean, and structure a video until it was ready to publish.
He showed how to trim filler sounds like “uhm”, use keyboard shortcuts to speed up editing, and balance pace without losing authenticity. His process wasn’t about perfection, but about getting things done efficiently, using whatever tools you have on hand. Even a smartphone can be enough to start.
Why Audio Matters More Than Visuals
One of the standout lessons from the session was that good sound is more important than perfect visuals. Josef explained how poor audio can cause viewers to tune out, even if the footage looks great. He shared tips on how to record clean voiceovers, use audio enhancement tools, and maintain a consistent volume throughout.
Simple techniques like removing background noise or adjusting echo can make a huge difference to the final result.
